TIME CAPSULE PROJECT

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

FOR INDIVIDUALS / HOUSEHOLDS

Aim:

The HHG Time Capsule Project is a dedicated community initiative led by the Hambledon History Group. Our mission is to capture the essence of our village in 2026 for residents to explore in 2076.

Specializing in both physical and digital archives, we gather artifacts, oral histories, and media to ensure Hambledon’s story is preserved. Our commitment to community engagement sets us apart as we work collaboratively with locals.

Through various outreach efforts, we engage residents, businesses, and schools to create a rich legacy.

We aim to leave an insightful legacy of what it is like to live in the parish of Hambledon in 2026. This will enable future readers to really understand not just the “what” but also the “why” of our village society and gain a deeper understanding of our village life and how it has evolved.

INDIVIDUALS / HOUSEHOLDS

What are we looking for?

For each category we ask for some basic information. For example for a business – the type of business you are discussing and when it was established. For individuals and households your name and address and how long you have lived in the village and so on.

We then ask for your thoughts, attitudes, opinions and emotions. You should feel free to write about anything of interest to you. Not just the big issues of the day, but more the apparently trivial and ephemeral topics that will prove to be of great interest in years to come.

We welcome not just written submissions but also photographs, scans and other records that you would like to submit. With digital technology we can capture so much more information.

If you are having technology problems then let us know, we can probably help you.

How to Make a Submission
INDIVIDUAL / HOUSEHOLDS

Category Information

In this category we welcome submissions from individual villagers and/or their households. This is perhaps the most significant part of the Time Capsule project as this is the means whereby the “voices” of individual villagers can be heard. We encourage those making submissions to be as open – even outrageous (!) – as possible. Your opinions, concerns, attitudes and emotions are of real historical interest in understanding our village society. There is great interest in knowing how you really feel about living in Hambledon and why you choose to do so.

For those who are not comfortable with using computers etc then we will try to make arrangements to capture your input with video and voice recordings. Every villager has a unique contribution to make either on their own account or as part of a household within the parish.

Types of Input:

Future readers will be interested to know more about your views and life in Hambledon. You might wish to address a range of topics:

  • Recently moved here? – what attracted you and why, or perhaps long term residents/family
  • Your opinions about issues in the village – parking and traffic, planning and possible developments, the future for the shop / pub / school, house prices, accessibility for younger people etc etc
  • Community events and activities – do you participate? What do you like/do/support
  • A diary of events and activities, how about “a day in the life of” capturing your everyday experience – car wont start? Kids not ready for school? Lawnmower broken? Etc etc

Your personal views, and your attitudes and opinions will be valuable to future historians and add richness to the insights they gain. Everything you submit will be treated as Private until it is released in 2076.
