TIME CAPSULE PROJECT

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

BUSINESSES

Aim:

The HHG Time Capsule Project is a dedicated community initiative led by the Hambledon History Group. Our mission is to capture the essence of our village in 2026 for residents to explore in 2076.

Specializing in both physical and digital archives, we gather artifacts, oral histories, and media to ensure Hambledon’s story is preserved. Our commitment to community engagement sets us apart as we work collaboratively with locals.

Through various outreach efforts, we engage residents, businesses, and schools to create a rich legacy.

We aim to leave an insightful legacy of what it is like to live in the parish of Hambledon in 2026. This will enable future readers to really understand not just the “what” but also the “why” of our village society and gain a deeper understanding of our village life and how it has evolved.

BUSINESSES

What are we looking for?

For each category we ask for some basic information. For example for a business – the type of business you are discussing and when it was established. For individuals and households your name and address and how long you have lived in the village and so on.

We then ask for your thoughts, attitudes, opinions and emotions. You should feel free to write about anything of interest to you. Not just the big issues of the day, but more the apparently trivial and ephemeral topics that will prove to be of great interest in years to come.

We welcome not just written submissions but also photographs, scans and other records that you would like to submit. With digital technology we can capture so much more information.

If you are having technology problems then let us know, we can probably help you.

How to Make a Submission
BUSINESSES

Category Information

In this category, we warmly welcome submissions from every business within our parish. A “business” can be anything from a part-time, home-based hobby or consultancy to a working farm of several thousand acres. Just as with our individual residents, the “voices” of our local business owners are a significant part of this project.

We encourage you to be as open—and even as “outrageous”—as you like! Your personal views, frustrations, and successes are of real historical interest. There is a great deal of value in knowing how you really feel about operating in Hambledon, why you chose this location, and how your business has progressed over the years.

Types of Input:

To help future generations understand our local economy, we have provided a small table below to capture the “fast facts” about your trade. Beyond these basics, the next section is your opportunity to write as much or as little as you wish about your professional life in the village.
Future readers in 2076 will be fascinated by your perspective on a range of topics:

  • Current Climate: What are the biggest challenges or opportunities you face today?
  • Daily Life: What excites you or keeps you up at night?
  • Community: How do you feel about your relationship with the local village and its residents?
  • The Future: What are your intentions for the business and your plans for the years ahead?

Your personal views, and your attitudes and opinions will be valuable to future historians and add richness to the insights they gain. Everything you submit will be treated as Private until it is released in 2076.
